About the Author

I began drawing cartoons when I was working in Deposit Operations at Disney World.  I’d go to lunch and sit in the cafeteria and draw a cartoon about something going on in the office, using napkins as my medium.  My mother-in-law told me I should call them “Napkin Art,” the original name of my cartoons. To this day, napkins are my favorite thing for drawing or writing ideas. I’ll still sketch out the ideas on napkins wherever I am, so I try to avoid nice restaurants with cloth napkins!  After a while, I started doing weekly cartoons for my church’s’ bulletin. Then I was asked to do cartoon illustrations for a couple of books.  My friends would tell me how much they enjoyed my cartoons and humor, and they kept encouraging me to get them published.  I finally decided to print what cartoons I had on my computer and found that I had over 600; I never imagined I had that many!  I went through the cartoons, picked out some of my favorites and came up with this collection.  Unfortunately, “Napkin Art” is a name used for many other things, and I didn’t want to get into a problem by using the name, so I came up with “Gladys’ World.”
